Titan Trigger Fish – the Facts!
Mar 9th
The Titan Triggerfish is an infamous character of many tropical reefs, with stories abounds of how they aggressively attack divers (especially during the breeding season). Stories of people have bodily parts bitten, or the more luck just having holes in their fins… Most divers are warned of Titan’s during dive briefing etc, which does tend to heighten the anxiety for divers when they see them!
Well, here are some real facts about these misunderstood creatures!
Titan’s are extremely territorial, and especially during the breeding season on April/May they will protect there nest aggressively. During these months the male will guard the nest against all on-comers, including divers; the ‘Protection Zone’ goes directly up from the nest in a cone shape (as they can se upwards).
Their eyes are independently rotating, heavy armored scales; they are the largest member of the Triggerfish family and can grow up to 75cm!
There bites can cause infection as they contain a natural poison called Ciguatoxin, which can have serious affects on humans; in extreme cases causing heart attacks or paralysis. They may also use ramming techniques to scare other creature’s away (including divers).
Titan’s are generally short sites, so can not see well at distance.
They usually feed on hard corals or hard bodied invertebrates and algae, NOT divers!
The most important thing to remember here is that we are invading there world and territory; they are only following there instincts with regard to what they think is a threat. Now unfortunately, so divers act aggressively back to them either hitting them with points/knifes/etc. This is understandable considering the stories that get told, but this can also have an aggravating effect. The titan will learn that divers are even more dangerous, and hence attack them more (even when not provoked).
I am a bit of a fan of titan’s, I must admit… Some of my friends have said I`m crazy, but they have a certain attraction; kind of like the misunderstood kid in school. I now have many photographs of them (close up), and find them very interesting to watch and study.
Personally I have never been attacked by a titan, but I know people who have. One of them is a dive master friend; he was leading a dive in Tioman when a large titan charged at him. I moved him to one side, and took the front position. The titan circled for another attack… It hovered about 4 or 5 meters from me starring at me, so I took the opportunity to take a photograph of it! Which obviously made it made, it charged at my camera strobe; as it came close I gently pushed its body away from my camera. It swam off a little way then looked at me again and swam off, and we didn’t see it again. Just proving that there is a non aggresive way to deal with them, remember they have a right to lead a peaceful life too!

How to Fish
Feb 18th
How To Fish
Introduction
Fishing has been a man’s activity for generations. Back in the old days men would fish to feed their family. Today I am one of those men who fish to feed himself. What i mean is that fishing is what I do for a living.
How To Fish
1. Check to make sure you have the proper equipment.
-Tackle Box
-Rod
-hooks
-weights
-metal links
-teewzers
-camera =)
Hint*
Now I know if you go to many stores you will be severely ripped off. I means just because it is a niche item I was overcharged. For an example, a minnow bucket costs $25. A normal bucket with a good lid costs $4.
That’s why i highly reccommend this company as they have done me so much. They are one of those secret companies that a few people knows about.
Visit Site!
Step 2. Ask yourself where all the popular fishing spots are.
Is it close?
Can I spend that much time?
Do I have any freinds that fish?
Should I go on a fishing trip with my buddies?
Step 3. Dress Code
-Fairly Warm Jacket
-Dress in layers
-Extra pair of shoes and socks
-Always carry a pocket knife and two lighters
Step 4. Setting up line
-You need to first make your line. The way to do this is attatch the line to the hook and a rectangle and circle shaped metal. Attatch that line to the circle shaped metal.
-Now get your main line from your rod and attatch it to a metal with two circles or “rings”.
-Open up the retangle metal and clip it onto the circle metal connected to your main line
This may sound very confusing, for this step I would suggest you see a video tutorial instead.
Step 5. Choosing your bait
There are so many lures out there it gets ridiculous! I would just say to use worms or minnows for regular fishing and if you want to catch a huge fish i would say do some research on that fish. The one bait i know works for sure is this one. Click here to see this lure
Step 6. Actual fishing
Once you have your bait hooked then it’s time to throw the line into the water. Make sure to lock your fishing rod after you throw the line. To lock the fishing rod you simply close the metal ring located right above your string. And to open it you would need to open it.
Step 7. Wait, or Wrestle
If a fish bites wrestle with it. cast in and out in and out. if nothing is biting in 30 minutes i say change your location.
You now know how to fish.

Tropical Fish in Banderas Bay
Feb 15th
The natural world will open up to you when you use your Puerto Vallarta Villa Rental as a home base and set out to explore the wonders of Banderas Bay. You can see many of the area’s native inhabitants at ground level, including crocodiles, sea turtles, dolphins and sea birds. You’re going to need snorkel or scuba gear to get a good look at some of the more exotic creatures, including the bay’s colorful array of tropical fish.
So what can you expect to see when you don fins and mask and dip below the surface of the bay? It’s a long list, and a field guide to tropical fishes will give you complete information. (If your Puerto Vallarta Villa Rental doesn’t have one in its library, visit a local bookstore.) Here’s a brief overview to get you started.
Rays, including the manta ray and spotted eagle ray, often swoop around in shallow waters looking for lunch (don’t worry, they’re not interested in you). These gentle, easily recognizable guys (think “flying wing”) are pretty shy, but if you stay relatively quiet in the water, they may swim up to take a closer look at you.
The Moorish Idol is the only member of its family, although it has some relatives among the Surgeonfish. You’ll recognize this one by its striking yellow and black bands against a white background – oh, and by its elegant trailing crest, which gives the fish a “D” shape. This one doesn’t usually hang out in company, so you’re likely to see it alone or with one or two others.
The Cortez Angelfish is a real beauty – bright yellow in front, black in back. Said to be monogamous, these animals begin their breeding cycle in mid-summer. The youngsters tend to be territorial loners, while older animals are more inclined to wander further afield in pairs or small groups.
Keep an eye out for critters that are likely to be more familiar to you, including lobster and octopus.
Take an underwater camera with you on your tropical fish finding expedition, and you can use the photos you took and identify the fish you brushed up against and also to prove that you ventured into the vast, but shallow, watery unknown. You can find some inexpensive disposable models in local shops. These rarely have a flash, so snap your shots when the sun it at its highest and the water at its clearest to get the best results.

Shooting Fish While Scuba Diving In Thailand
Feb 4th
If you’re checking to see if it’s legal, and how you plan to punish me, please allow me to explain. I’m a PADI Master Instructor of Scuba Diving, and I spend my working days teaching scuba in Thailand. One of the most rewarding experiences for my diving students’ is shooting great photographs of aquatic marine life.
Making underwater photographs in Thailand has many advantages for divers searching for that ‘perfect shot’;
Clear blue water
Warm water averaging 28 degrees centigrade
Pristine Coral Reef formations
Established Diving Centers and Scuba Equipment Shops
The most popular tourist areas for scuba diving in Thailand are Pattaya, Phuket and Koh Samui. These resorts offer great fun and excitement for beginners and certified divers. Whether it’s vibrant fish life, colourful corals or sunken ship wrecks, the camera won’t stop clicking while you’re scuba diving in Thailand. I’ve captured pictures of Seahorses and giant Gorgonian Sea Fans in Phuket, Black tip reef Sharks in Koh Samui, and World War 11 ship wrecks in Pattaya.
Todays modern camera equipment has changed the way that scuba divers ’shoot’ fish underwater. The traditional film camera is still used by many diving professionals, but digital underwater cameras have made underwater photography both accessible and affordable to the majority of scuba divers. Learning to Scuba Dive is not difficult for most people who are comfortable in the water, but snapping great photos under water takes novices some time to learn. One of the most important attributes is good buoyancy control. Apart from all the obvious advantages that neutral, relaxed buoyancy has for scuba diving, if you’re trying to compose that image of the tiny yellow blob, commonly known as a Frogfish, being able to hover almost motionless just centimetres away from your subject is what sets you apart from the norm. Also, as recreational scuba divers descend, water absorbs colour. Starting with Red, Orange and then Yellow, and as you dive deeper, you’ll lose Green and Blue. Strobe lights help to restore some of the colour that’s lost, which is how the professionals obtain fantastic vibrant colours from their images.
I fully appreciate that not every diver has a passion for taking pictures of the new world that they’ve discovered. Many divers are more fascinated by ship wrecks, perhaps diving deep or making dives using nitrox (an increased amount of oxygen) but most of my scuba buddies have admitted that they are very keen to share the wonders on the underwater world by shooting pictures of fish and other marine life. With modern technology as a friend, it’s now possible to store and share underwater images with your family, friends and even the general public via social sites and the internet. The dive may have been the most amazing experience that you’ve had, but it’s so much more powerful to share the adventures with those for whom it may not be possibly to try scuba diving. PADI scuba courses teach student divers how to capture and share underwater photographs, and the Digital Underwater Photography course is now available to all scuba divers from the age of ten.
Private scuba lessons are becoming more popular now, especially in Thailand. Taking a dive course with you own private scuba instructor offers exclusivity, the personal touch, and usually more flexibility. So to enrol in the shooting fish course, otherwise known as the PADI DUP (digital underwater photography) course, you do need to be a certified diver of at least ten years old. But be prepared for some underwater fun that diving in Pattaya has to offer. The coral reefs are shallower here than other dive sites in Thailand, and the other advantage is that scuba diving in Pattaya is available year round because the Gulf of Thailand tends to be sheltered from the southwest monsoons that arrive in Phuket from June until October. Pattaya is not a famous diving destination, but beginners and experienced divers will be rewarded with some of the best wreck diving in Thailand. So, clean up the lens, replace the batteries and make sure that you have a watertight seal, because when you dive in Pattaya the camera never lies. You really can see Turtles, Seahorses and Sharks, and the wreck dives will leave you breathless (pardon the pun) as you drift along US Landing Crafts from the Second World War that were intentionally sunk by the Thai Navy for the local Thai divers and tourists on a scuba diving holiday in Pattaya.

Known as ‘Scuba Steve’ to my friends, I’m a PADI Master Instructor with almost twenty years of experience in scuba diving.

Catch And Release Technique – How To Save Fish And The Fishing Hobby
Feb 3rd
Fishing has now changed from a means of livelihood to a sport that many people enjoy. In the modern world, fishing is a very good pastime that generates a lot of fun. The sport, however, might die out if nothing is done to maintain a good population of fish in lakes, rivers, and streams.
Since the world is now facing the threat of fish depletion, many anglers have adopted the technique of “catch and release” fishing. Unfortunately, many anglers do not know the technique very well and, consequently, the fish die.
You should take care when you are catching and releasing fish. With a little practise, you will learn the methods of doing it effectively. You can then not only enjoy your hobby, but also maintain a decent population of fish in your local lake or stream.
Extract the Hook Carefully
Start with the hooks. If the fish you have caught is pierced through its mouth, it has a larger chance of survival that a fish that is pierced through its gills. If you have hooked a fish in its guts, cutting off the hook before releasing the fish is the the best thing you can. The fish can then spit out the hook after it dissolves. Sometimes, the fish can continue living comfortably even if it has a rusted hook inside its body.
Remember not to tug on the line or pull the hook out of the fish because this can hurt the fish badly. If you feel you can remove the hook easily, do it with a pair of needle nose pliers. You can extract the hook easily if you separate the barbs from the hooks. Remember not to wiggle the hook as you pull it out.
Grip the Fish Correctly
The way you grip a fish that is out of water makes a whale of a difference. Don’t touch a fish with bare hands because the fish has a slippery protective coat around it, which will strip off if you touch it with bare hands. If you must touch a fish, touch it with wet hands. Wearing gloves when you handle fish is the best thing you can do. Gloves not only give you ample protection from cuts and scratches, but also prevent your hands from getting that strong odour of fish.
Keep the Fight Small
The fight that a fish puts up is the greatest source of fun to anglers. Some anglers wait for this almost all day. However, this fight can kill the fish.
Fish are similar to human beings in that they produce a lot of lactic acid during times of physical stress and strain. Just as a human being feels sore all over after a heavy work out, a fish also feels sore after a fight.
The excess quantity of lactic acid in the body of a fish can cause its death even days after its release. If you are trying out the technique of “catch and release,” ensure that you minimize the struggle as much as possible.
Release a Fish Quickly
Needless to say, fish cannot survive outside water. It will die if you take too long to release it back into the water.
Don’t permit a fish that you have caught to flop around. Flopping around damages the internal organs of a fish, and even if it is released into the water, it can die of injuries.
Revive the Fish
If necessary, you can revive fishes that have passed out. A fish can pass out due to lack of oxygen. To revive it, place it into the water with its belly facing down. Gently grip its tail and move it gently back and forth till it gives you a sign that it has recovered. If necessary, you will have to repeat the procedure.
Remember not to release a fish unless it is ready to swim on its own. A fish that has not yet fully recovered can be swept away by the current and dashed into the rocks.
See that you have all your fishing equipment, including camera, gloves, and pliers ready if you intend to practise the technique of “catch and release.” America’s most favorite hobby is fishing, and you cannot enjoy it if there are no fish. So save the fish and save the hobby too.

Looking For a Babble Fish
Feb 2nd
Have you ever imagined fishing over the blue waters and then suddenly one of the fish you have caught talks back to you? That’s a babble fish, alright. But if it really happens, what would be your reaction? Are you going to let the fish go or will you consider taking it to the shore? The fish would surely be a delight for every one else to see. Well, it’s a big decision. Letting the fish go may mean you won’t see it ever again. And it would be hard to prove to everybody else that you did see a babble fish. But if you do take it to the shore, it may die on the way. Babble fish are going to be entirely delicate, knowing that they’re rare species – if they ever existed that is.
While these instances may only happen in your wildest imagination, the thought is entertaining to thinking about. Just imagine if you do come face to face with something extraordinary – something you can’t describe. It happens. And it may happen to you. Most of the stories you are hearing everyday are so outrageous it can’t be true. But some people do have proofs to show. A good example is the Maiken Yacht.
The story has it that the crew of Maiken yacht encountered something like a spectacle when they are out fishing and are doing some island hopping. One crew member said that as they are wading their way back, the waters all around them turned into sands and stones. The blue sea that they’re sailing on was covered with soil they can’t see any water at all. And the incident proposes a huge problem for the yacht’s propeller. The stones would definitely catch in it.
It’s a good thing that they have checked everything about the yacht thoroughly and have sailed in a vessel of tiptop condition. Else, they won’t be able to head back safely and easily. And there won’t be any story to tell. Because they would surely be stuck right there in the middle of ocean filled with stones. And they would have to try to survive without any water or food. The seas eventually cleared up and the water showed a little later. However, a volcanic island had appeared over the horizon and right before their very eyes. It seems like there’s an underwater volcano that had blown up while they were in the area. They’re lucky they weren’t hurt.
This particular sea adventure can qualify as their babble fish. It is something that the crew didn’t expect to encounter, but it had happened nevertheless. To a common person, it is quite hard to taken on as true. It is a good thing that one of the crew members of the Maiken Yacht crew had brought a camera along. As such, there were pictures taken to remind them of their experience. But even with proof, there are still people that don’t believe in their adventure. However, the crew merely wants to show people what they’ve seen and not convince them. This is their babble fish. Now, what would be yours?
